Purpose of the role

Within an allocated product stream, the jobholder is responsible for ensuring that all non standard products (i.e. new products, design derivations, specials, and all products not listed in the Stock Item List) are all comprehensively planned and launched on time to achieve their planned margin in strict accordance with the Commercial process

Duties and responsibilities

Within the allocated product stream the jobholder will ensure that every non standard product is processed in strict accordance with the Commercial process i.e. is supported with a Commercial Route Plan, and undergoes risk assessment, production readiness review, obsolescence review and contract review . The Commercial Route Plan determines every APQP Gate Stage required to ensure the product’s successful launch, determines the time required in every Gate Stage and, critically, provides the business with a successful launch date for every non standard product


The key deliverable for all non standard product OTD >95%


Determine the level of planning required for each Commercial Route Plan and prepare the Commercial route Plan, where necessary in conjunction with the Gate Stage Owners to ensure that APQP Gate Stage Owners are aware of their own Gate Stage commitments and achieve them, on time.


Undertake, where appropriate in conjunction with the Contract Compliance Manager, Contract Compliance reviewsto ensure conformity with contractual commitments and to ensure maximum levels of profitability. The purpose is to ensure that the business is aware of the clauses to which it is committed, can and does comply with the clauses and routinely reviews these clauses to ensure continuing compliance and implement review actions e.g. price increases.


In order to achieve on time delivery for all non standard products within the allotted area, the jobholder shall also be responsible for:

a.Receiving feedback from SOPS/operations to ensure lessons learned from previous builds is incorporated into new builds e.g. lead times, MOQ’s

b.Ensuring appropriate obsolescence reviews are performed to check the availability and reliability of supply chains – the onus always being to ensure that generic lead times are only used where zero risk is assumed. Obsolescence review actions should be managed by the Coordinator

c.Tooling checks should be performed to ensure that products which have not been made for some time remain production ready – before commitment dates are provided to customer services

d.Through compiling and managing the Commercial Route Plan, the risk assessment, the compliance review, Operational feedback and the obsolescence review, it is the responsibility of the Commercial coordinator to advise lead times for non standard products and to update the customer services coordinator allocated to your product stream on the status of availability.

e.Ensure that the MIS system is updated at all times to ensure that the business has full visibility of the status of all gate stages

f.Collate forecast data and safety stock requirements, review this data and seek authorisation to make this data available to the SOPS process to ensure appropriate action.

g.Represent your allotted product stream, in customer meetings such as Quarterly Business Reviews, performance reviews, continuous improvement reviews as required

h.Proactively manages customer complaints and improvement plans

i.Adhere to the Commercial process in close coordination with Customer Services, product Managers, Engineering, Purchasing and Operations
