Full Time - 37.5 hours per week, part time hours considered


Following the success of a similar scheme run in the last 5 years, an exciting opportunity has arisen for Preceptorship Nurses to join Milestones Trust.

We are seeking newly qualified nurses with a qualification in Learning Disability, Adult or Mental Health Nursing to take part in our exciting preceptorship programme.

If you are highly motivated, enjoy working within a clinical team to deliver high standards of care to the people you support, you are the person we need to join our team.


The aim of Preceptorship is for the newly qualified nurse to engage in a structured process of support and development ensuring a safe and enjoyable period of transition from student to newly qualified nurse. The Preceptorship model used encourages the Preceptee to engage in the development of professional skills, knowledge and competency.


You will be allocated a service/services to undertake your preceptorship based on your preferences which will be discussed at interview.  We are looking for nurses who are passionate about providing high quality, individualised support to this client group, has recently completed their nurse training (RNLD, Adult and Mental Health nurses also considered), and wishes to further their experience within innovative services for people with complex behavioural support needs and/or complex physical health needs.


Please note that this position is for twelve months only, at the end of which the successful applicant will have a portfolio of evidence that they have successfully completed a rigorous preceptorship, placing them in an excellent position for taking their career forward whether that is in one of the highly sought-after positions within Milestones Trust or elsewhere. We have been able to offer permanent positions to all Nurses who have previously been appointed onto this scheme. This unique position offers a robust foundation for newly qualified nurses.


As Preceptorship Nurse your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the people we support experience high quality; professional, individualised, outcomes-focused and responsive support at all times.
  • Managing a caseload to ensure that people clinical and health needs are met in a holistic way. 

The successful Preceptorship Nurse will:

  • Have Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with team members, service users and a range of stakeholders including families and carers
  • Be able to demonstrate previous experience of working on own initiative as leader of and part of a team and of being self-motivated
  • Open to improving and developing the service in partnership with other members of your team
